As you increase the boost in your engine you need to get colder spark plugs to help extract the excessive heat generated in your combustion chamber and prevent detonation. However, running too cold of a spark plug will lead to spark plug fouling, due to the spark plug not reaching optimal temperature to work properly.
The NGK Spark Plug heat ranges are the following:
- Range 6 - for stock turbo (up to 1bar of boost) and non-turbo applications
- Range 7 - for 1 to 1.4 bars of boost
- Range 8 - for 1.4 to 2 bars of boost
The heat ranges shown in this chart are only accurate for turbo engines with a stock compression ratio of 8:1! If you are running aftermarket pistons with higher compression or you are running boost on a naturally aspirated engine with a 10:1 compression ratio, please contact us before ordering.
It is recommended to change the copper spark plugs once every 20000km.
